A Fun Recipe for the Fall Season!

In the spirit of the fall season, a raw pumpkin cheesecake recipe!
Found on www.thedailyrawcafe.com

Have fun with this easy recipe. I know I plan on making one, myself. Send in photos so we can all celebrate the fruits of our labor!

Pumpkin Pecan Spice Cheesecake

Cheesecake is my most favorite dessert.  And pumpkin pie ain't so bad either.  This recipe is a little early but I think this would be great for Thanksgiving.

CRUST
2 cups soaked pecans
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon organic vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon sea salt
1 cup of dates, unsoaked

Process nuts, spices, vanilla and salt in a food processor until fine; add dates. Continue to process until well incorporated. Transfer the mixture into a 9-inch springform pan and press evenly onto the bottom. Place the pan in the refrigerator until filling is ready.

FILLING
3 cups of cashews, soaked for 1 hour to soften
½ cup lemon juice
½ cup carrot juice
¼ cup raw agave nectar
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
2 teaspoons organic vanilla extract

Mix cashews, lemon juice, carrot juice, agave, spice and vanilla in blender; process until smooth and creamy. Make sure the filling has no lumps. Pour the cheese mixture onto the crust. Place the cheesecake into the freezer for 4 hours or until firm. Let come to room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

Our Snackies Got Featured!

Top o' the mornin' to you all out in the blogosphere! Today I was pleasantly awoken to read a message from Sarah, a fellow blogger who had stumbled upon our Etsy shop and was inspired by our Monkey Bites. She featured them in a piece she wrote which is aptly named, "Snack Attack." Fitting as our Monkey Bites are addictive and can be eaten on the run in your favorite trail mix, on their own, or even as a cereal in the morning with your favorite milk or milk-esque libation!

Check out the blog, and read it for yourself!

Monkey Bites Photo: a la Jewell

In other news, it was Ariane's birthday last night and we went out to celebrate at, Street, a restaurant out here in LA. I personally had to revisit the heirloom tomatoes since mine are since gone. Delightful and light, with a nice balsamic dressing. Savory and simple (since sweet doesn't quite apply for this situation). We finished up with a thai tea variation of creme brulee. Yum! Happy Birthday Ariane! Keep up the good work at Rawk-n-Roll! We all love you and your food ;)

Stay posted as there may be a fun and interactive announcement in the works in the next day or two!!

Buffalo Bill and Onion a Million Soon to Hit the Shelves! And More!

It has been a few very exciting few weeks here at Rawk-n-Roll. We have been fine tuning recipes, taste testing, and experimenting here in the kitchen. At long last we have found the perfect blends of savory herbs and spices that will be sure to pique your epicurean curiosity! Onion a Million and Buffalo Bill are now finalized in their formulations and are beginning to be sent out to smaller stores in the near future to be stocked. As for Whole Foods, you can look forward to seeing the new flavors in the upcoming months. Hold on to your hats!

Needless to say, we are all thrilled to see these flavors come to fruition that began with our fans voting!

Here are some teaser photos for you...

Packaging fun!

To clarify for those of you who are new on the bandwagon with us; Onion a Million is our sour cream and onion flavor and Buffalo Bill is our new hot, spicy Buffalo Wing Style flavor.

You can look forward to photos being taken of both of these new flavors for our Etsy and our Rawk-n-Roll sites:

They will be included with our 3-pack discounts we have in effect and our case discounts! Feel free to stop by either shop to place your order. I know that I am personally loving the variety that we are further integrating into our kale chip family :)

In other news... we got a special treat at the kitchen the other day, heirloom tomatoes to take home! Check out the evidence!
Gorgeous and Delicious!

Until next time!

Buffalo Bill and Onion a Million, the New Additions to Our Kale Family!

Buffalo Bill Kale Chips. Fresh out of the dehydrator!

This week at Rawk-n-Roll Cuisine we were testing recipes for our new flavor, Buffalo Bill! You can look forward to a perfect amount of heat, a creamy, buttery flavor, with just a touch of tang- just like your favorite buffalo wings! "All the high-flying flavor, none of the wings." of course :) I have attached a photo of one of the test batches being brought fresh out of a dehydrator. Man, was it a fun week in the kitchen, helping develop the recipe, taste testing, and of course getting to see the final product.

Ariane also designed the label for Onion a Million. *It is so sweet, it will just rot the teeth out of your skull!  Check it out for yourself!

That's all I have for you today. Be sure to check back soon for more updates, fun photos, and all that jazz!

With Love and Dissent,
Jewell

*Hopefully not, considering that it is savory without any sugar added :)

Chalk Up Another Reason to Resist Factory Farmed Eggs

Wright County Farm in Iowa, one of the country's largest egg producers has declared a VOLUNTARY recall of 228 million eggs that spanned 13 brand names. The states affected ranged from California, Colorado, and Minnesota.

Some of the brands to look out for are Lucerne, Albertsons, Farm Fresh, Lund, Ralphs, amongst others.

It only makes you wonder to what extent the damage is that this producer would voluntarily pull their products off the shelves as to avoid a PR nightmare (they already have one on their hands now). It honestly gives me the creeps.

The eggs have tainted shells and can potentially cause an epidemic of salmonella due to the cramped, unsanitary conditions of factory farms. The FDA fails to regulate the state of these "farms" that treat the animals more like units of production and in turn subjects the public to fall vulnerable to grave illness.

It is up to us, the community to keep ourselves aware of these situations and not support these atrocious practices not only towards animals, but to our health.

The best way to avoid this and to also in turn support your local economy is to buy directly from farmers who preferably only raise cage-free, free-range, sprout or grass fed livestock. This way, you personally know the source you are buying from, are avoiding the ingestion of harmful hormones and antibiotics, along with supporting the happy, humane life of a sentient living thing.

Please be conscious and spread the word.

With Love,
Jewell

Kick Off Blog!

Good morning!

Jewell here, from Rawk-n-Roll Cuisine and it is my pleasure to be your host.

We are all very excited here at Rawk-n-Roll to reach out to those who are enthusiasts of our products along with connecting with new individuals within the community.

"What are the nature of your culinary confections?" You may be asking...

Well, to begin, we are a completely raw, vegan, organic snack food line that uses produce that is grown locally in every instance we possibly can obtain it. Our goal is to be "as easy on the wallet as it is on the taste buds." As of right now, we have five different flavors of kale chips! Suiting anyone's pallet.

Our Notchos are our best sellers; packing an addictive punch of savory delight that will have you in love after first bite :)

Barbi Kale is a jerky-like kale chip that is a favorite as it has 0 fat. People snacking on this flavorful morsel can keep their bikini body year round!

Kaletaliano is our pizza flavored crisp. With a delicious tomato base, accented with Italian herbs and a mouth-watering nut cheese, this chip will get you coming back for more every time!

Onion a Million is one of our new flavors that has yet to hit the shelves. We recently held a contest for our fans on www.quarrygirl.com to choose the next flavor of kale chip and this was one of the winners! Creamy, with a hint of onion, this beats any potato chip, any day!

Buffalo Bill is the other new flavor here at Rawk-n-Roll, also chosen by a Rawk-n-Roll devotee ;) This kale chip has yet to hit the shelves as we are developing the recipe (pictures to come) but you are sure to be in for a treat with this hot, tangy kale chip! "All the high-flying flavor, none of the wings."

Ok, so now for the treats for those of us who have a sweet tooth!

Super fudge is made with mesquite and maca to make it a decadent treat, without the guilt.

Kanga Crunch is our chocolate flavored granola. Made with raw cacao and agave nectar, this is an amazing treat to have as cereal, or to take on the road.

Monkey Bites is our banana flavored granola. Its a personal favorite of mine :) I love to put it in almond milk, let it get soft, eat it like cereal, and then drink the banana flavored milk after. Yum yum!

What you can look forward to here are; updates on our new flavors (like Buffalo Bill and Onion a Million), pictures, interviews, announcements on tastings, events, and great deals!

Here is the first one!

Visit our Etsy shop and receive a discount from retail price! Only $15 for a 3-pack of granola or kale chips (your choice!) and $55 for a variety case of kale chips (or all the same, if you have a favorite!)

Signing off for now.
